Aviation-Quest.cc – Behind the Scenes, New Directions & What’s Next
Show notes
Recorded at the end of April, this special housekeeping episode offers a comprehensive and transparent look at the current state and future direction of Aviation-Quest.cc. Hosts Jürgen Reis and Stefan Lorenz take a step back from guest interviews to reconnect with their audience — outlining the mission, structure, and evolving ecosystem of the podcast.
What emerges is a clear picture of a project that has grown into exactly what it set out to be: a long-form aviation platform combining depth, authenticity, and a steadily expanding range of perspectives.
Together, they explore:
- The core idea behind Aviation-Quest.cc and its development into a structured, long-term aviation podcast
- The full ecosystem beyond audio — including YouTube, community interaction via Discord, and Jürgen’s LinkedIn presence
- A call for future guests from across all areas of aviation — from pilots and engineers to ATC, dispatch, simmers, and aviation media creators
A central topic of the episode is Stefan’s professional transition from Airbus A320 to Boeing 737, including an upcoming type rating later this year. This step not only marks a significant career move, but may also influence the future direction of his YouTube channel FSClips — opening new perspectives for both real-world and simulated aviation content.
On the other side, Jürgen shares insights into his current work on a dedicated mental coaching syllabus for aviation professionals, reflecting his growing focus on supporting pilots and aspiring candidates in performance, preparation, and mindset. One recent coaching experience — helping a candidate successfully pass a crucial assessment — highlights the real-world impact of this work. At the same time, he shares condensed insights from his developing syllabus in regular weekly publications on his LinkedIn profile.
The episode also provides a forward-looking perspective:
- A steady stream of high-quality upcoming guests
- An increasingly broad coverage of aviation topics
- A clear commitment to consistency, depth, and community engagement
This is not a typical episode — it’s a snapshot of a project in motion. A moment to understand where Aviation-Quest.cc stands today, and where it is heading next.
From cockpit transitions to coaching insights, from YouTube development to community building — Episode 28 brings listeners closer to the people behind the podcast, and to the vision driving it forward.

00:01:07: I have FS clips with nine point nine K subscribers in front of me.
00:01:14: Stefan congratulations!
00:01:17: Hello Jürgen thank you very much.
00:01:20: remember when we talked about how i would love to one day have ten thousand subscribers it's almost there pretty amazing.
00:01:32: Yeah, I mean we record this by the end of April.
00:01:36: My shoulders are quite relaxed here for twenty-twenty six.
00:01:41: This goal should be achievable maybe after these five minutes.
00:01:45: why don't you just if your multitasking able and besides a podcast can handle the mouse and go to FS Clips, then click subscribe.
00:01:56: Hey Stefan might have reached his goal before the end of this episode could be great!
00:02:02: Yes that would be amazing.
00:02:05: anyway enough of it.
00:02:09: yes nice to see you again Jürgen I'm fine.
00:02:12: i had one last day off before quite a lot of flying again but yeah good
00:02:21: Yeah, I mean it's nice to see me again.
00:02:26: More or less because people hear us.
00:02:30: but we both on YouTube are an aviation podcast and audio cast And i think that should stay this way.
00:02:41: Because well We have interestingly enough a youtube channel That is aviation-quest podcast But there is not the both of us.
00:02:51: There are also thanks to FS Clips pilot Stefan Also today for this episode a very special video in the background of our voices.
00:03:05: Yeah, it's always real-world flight.
00:03:07: Today we're joining Iberia on an Airbus C-iii and flying from Madrid In Spain To Porto in Portugal.
00:03:19: Porto, oh I have been there for a family holiday in the nineties.
00:03:23: Yeah it's uh... It is nice region to enjoy summer or fall whatever.
00:03:30: its really a nice region!
00:03:33: I only know the airport so i've never been there..I only how take off and land from there.
00:03:40: but maybe one day ill make that.
00:03:44: I learned diving there, I made my open water diver license.
00:03:49: Really?
00:03:51: It was really.
00:03:52: but before this.
00:03:56: it's a very special episode But i think that shouldn't be so special.
00:03:59: we go from higher buff via stories to under the sea.
00:04:10: Yeah, let's keep this straight forward.
00:04:14: But yeah, Porto as I said nice airport and flight.
00:04:18: And todays episode is housekeeping.
00:04:24: so we should keep it clean and straightforward.
00:04:27: or what does that mean Stefan?
00:04:30: Yes!
00:04:31: We decided to record quite a few episodes.
00:04:34: now.
00:04:35: sometimes people ask questions things develop slightly different to what we thought it would be, and maybe we dedicate one episode a bit of the background.
00:04:48: What's going on?
00:04:50: Why?
00:04:50: certain things are the way they are?
00:04:53: What is coming up?
00:04:55: We have planned anything that has changed since Episode One where everyone told us about our plans were an update.
00:05:05: regarding this podcast
00:05:09: I mean one thing is for sure, we stayed on our mission.
00:05:13: We have aviation stories lots of them real ones not a superficial one but really broad spectrum and also the upcoming guests quite surprising what guests are, so to say really willing give us interviews.
00:05:36: And we're grounded and also not promotional.
00:05:40: We talked about this yesterday in private talk.
00:05:43: Stefan The goal is stay apocast First and foremost an audio podcast for entertainment, a little bit of aviation background and lots of fun.
00:06:02: Let's say like this and versatile topics.
00:06:06: Exactly!
00:06:06: This is our hobby for fun.
00:06:09: we don't want it to become how can I put?
00:06:13: A business venture as such?
00:06:16: now There is some cost that comes with having a podcast.
00:06:21: And maybe one day we will find the way to cover those, but for the time being it's just you and me talking, having guests and having a great time.
00:06:32: It's gonna be free for everyone to listen to this podcast... I think both agree.
00:06:38: its always going to be free to listen through these podcasts.
00:06:41: We don't want to charge people anything like this.
00:06:45: The concept is still exactly the same as on day one, right?
00:06:51: Exactly.
00:06:51: And I mean we have... As i said our platforms where audio format can be found are in our home page.
00:07:01: it's aviationquest.tc.
00:07:03: then we got a YouTube channel certainly.
00:07:07: Then there is Stefan FS Clips Channel and yeah We also offer a Discord server or to be exactly here, Stefan's FS Clips Server.
00:07:21: Or Stefan is running an FS Clip Discord server and there are subcategories which is for the podcast.
00:07:30: Yep!
00:07:31: Exactly So if you go... If maybe you are subscribed to FS Clipse so even not Beneath pretty much every single video, you will find a link to the Discord channel.
00:07:43: And that would take both the FS Clips and the Aviation Quest Podcast Discord Channel.
00:08:00: of our podcast, then we have Amazon Podcasts, Podcast Addict and BodyG.
00:08:06: Those are the main distribution platforms so you can find them at aviation-quest.cc.
00:08:15: And if you want to comment us or leave a message or invite yourself for an interview or invite your friend please do it!
00:08:24: It's YouTube channel comments section as well as the Discord server.
00:08:29: Then you can write me on my private quote.
00:08:35: LinkedIn profile, so it's just my name.
00:08:38: Copy pasted into LinkedIn.
00:08:39: I think i'm not too hard to find there and usually also accept certainly everybody who is knocking on my door.
00:08:46: no problem at all.
00:08:47: Just connect with me And then we can chat or whatever you.
00:08:53: you can write me especially if You want to be a guest that the show this happened before?
00:09:01: Yeah as I said I think multiple ways to contact us and certainly there's an email address you can find on the home page.
00:09:10: Exactly, yeah that we want to keep this very open door podcast.
00:09:15: i think... We're very approachable.
00:09:21: for me it's mostly the discord channel where people can contact me.
00:09:26: There was even a guy when we organized their meeting So we met up at an airport.
00:09:33: We are very relaxed about these things, so if you have any questions and comments or ideas then please feel free to contact us!
00:09:45: By the way, all information I just read out especially the Discord server or main info can be found at the end of every teaser.
00:09:56: So there is a little bit like an extension of the teaser and you find all links in everything.
00:10:09: And talking of SF clips, there were some new things going on lately.
00:10:15: Not only quote-unquote A-Street-Twenty.
00:10:19: you made some experiments here and I think they are quite successful Stefan!
00:10:24: Yeah for those who aren't familiar with the channel so i fly the Airbus A-street Twenty...I've been on airbuses for....I don't know..i need to calculate now.
00:10:34: Let's just say a very long time.
00:10:37: Even when I started my career as cabin crew, I was three thirty-three forty-three twenty and so I'm an Airbus guy always been And you know until now Always.
00:10:51: well that's Just My Thing.
00:10:53: That's the aircraft i Know it's The aircraft I fly.
00:10:56: that's how it works.
00:10:58: So FS Clips has been more or less, I think we could agree an airbus channel.
00:11:03: most of the videos revolve around procedures and technical details nice little stuff i really like about the Airbus.
00:11:12: a little detail said.
00:11:14: most people don't notice where you can see.
00:11:21: I was under the impression that this would just be a channel and this will carry on.
00:11:30: But two things are really cropping up now, The first thing is...I'm going to be honest.. I am running out of ideas.
00:11:40: I don't know exact number of
00:11:42: videos.
00:11:44: Deep deep deep arrives!
00:11:47: Well there comes point when you start talking about details.
00:11:50: nobody's interested in.
00:11:53: there's only so deep you can go before it gets a bit boring and I think i've covered so many topics regarding the airbus.I still have a to-do list,so i'm not done yet...there are still quite a few episodes that i have planned.
00:12:10: but once that list is done which should be within the next three four months then basically I don't know what to do next.
00:12:21: And the second thing, i work for a certain large german company with blue tails and we will receive.
00:12:38: And recently, they have told us where these aircraft are going to which basis and they're coming to where I am based.
00:12:47: They are going replace all the airbuses at my base so that will become a Boeing guy!
00:12:54: That of course also has an impact on me channel because in real world i'll no longer fly the Airbus.
00:13:08: How can I put this?
00:13:11: how to do it and what you're doing exactly.
00:13:18: I've already started to spread out a bit.
00:13:21: Jürgen, You know this!
00:13:23: I have done more videos that are not Airbus related just general videos about maybe some products released on Microsoft Flight Simulator or other videos regarding flight simulation.
00:13:39: they did really well.
00:13:40: i was surprised people would watch airbus stuff But actually, they seem to be quite happy to even see other things on my channel.
00:13:50: So yeah I don't know...I think by the end of this year The Channel might be quite different what it is now and i need to ensure that when this transition happens That im not gonna lose too many people And you know do in a nice gentle and cohesive way.
00:14:12: I don't want to say too much, but i got some ideas.
00:14:16: But first let me have you in private about this.
00:14:22: There could be a chance!
00:14:25: This is strategic.
00:14:28: You also need the people that are there as community and take care of them
00:14:38: Exactly.
00:14:39: When I told my community that i'm gonna have to switch to the seven three seven max, a lot of them said yeah but please keep making abbas videos you know?
00:14:49: That's what we're here for and I get it!
00:14:54: But like I say at the beginning literally running out of things to talk about when it comes to the air pass.
00:15:03: So maybe get, you know having to do a type rating on our brand new aircraft is not a bad idea and It is about the seven three seven.
00:15:18: I don't know, i really do not yet have made a decision regarding this but you are right Jürgen what he said at the beginning The channel has been the same for quite some time and now slowly But surely uh...I Have to make Some changes.
00:15:34: yeah
00:15:36: Yeah..i also think You will find A nice way in middle or a nice Way maybe with With the Seven Three Seven And other things around.
00:15:48: Yeah, I guess so.
00:15:50: We will see... we'll still have some months of work ahead with Airbus videos and some products that want to review.
00:16:01: So you know it's not like i'm completely out of ideas right now!
00:16:06: I am good till probably autumn this year And then I need come up with an idea because my list is empty.
00:16:18: Well, it sounds like a good timing.
00:16:21: But as I said everything has to be strategic and i think there was a strategic question about the guest interviews by only one host which is normally me doing the interview.
00:16:35: Is this correct Stefan?
00:16:36: Yes so for those of you who have never listened to any of the interviews we usually Starts.
00:16:43: the podcast is always both of us.
00:16:44: You will always hear both of Us on every podcast.
00:16:47: at least that's like an unwritten rule.
00:16:50: I guess we can say well, i don't know.
00:16:52: maybe one day there Will be a podcast with only One Of Us but usually There's Always Both of Us in The Podcast.
00:16:59: But They Interviewed Themselves Which are Usually Recorded Separately Usually Only Done With One Person and I think we both agreed that maybe three people might be a bit too much.
00:17:14: I think one-to-one usually works better in an audio podcast, who knows?
00:17:19: I'm not saying it's never going to happen... Maybe one day we decide.
00:17:24: let's
00:17:25: give you the try!
00:17:32: I am involved in a lot of coaching at the moment and i'm also writing normally even twice a day.
00:17:40: somehow this project really soaked me into my mental coaching syllabus for aviation professionals.
00:17:47: But today it got one hundred and twenty eight pages.
00:17:53: Yeah, this really became so to say my new passion in the moment but I am more flexible time wise.
00:17:59: This is why i'm normally conducting interviews.
00:18:04: Let's see what future brings In a moment...I hope you are happy with that!
00:18:13: Like some of you, hopefully might have recognized this episode one.
00:18:18: But yeah it is the podcast.
00:18:22: aviation coaching everything together.
00:18:24: It's getting more and more.
00:18:26: You know the aviation is so to say more and More soaking me in.
00:18:30: I think what Is This a little bit A Phenomena In This Industry Stefan?
00:18:37: Yeah, absolutely.
00:18:41: Welcome to the club!
00:18:42: I'm
00:18:44: still not in a cockpit but i feel gravity.
00:18:47: so there is something like...I am gravitating more and more into big A which is aviation.
00:18:55: But you know lots of people work on aviation that are not on an aircraft.
00:18:59: And everybody I know who's involved in aviation says the same, it is one of best industries to be in and for many people its not just a job but a lifestyle.
00:19:16: then it's a great profession to be in.
00:19:18: So even, you know if this is your entry into the industry I would say go for it because i think you're gonna have a great time!
00:19:29: Yeah as already pointed out on episode one...I worked with Spyle.
00:19:34: It was also throughout last years but now became just more and Yeah, intense for me and I want to bring this personally into the next level.
00:19:44: And i currently even started working.
00:19:47: that includes supporting pilot candidates in collaboration with a global aviation assessment partner focusing on performance and mental preparation.
00:19:57: The whole thing is really yeah it's taking off born intended.
00:20:04: Yeah, it was really just the other week step and I told you.
00:20:08: I was working with an aspiring pilot and after a hour of coaching he was preparing for an exam and crushed him very next day.
00:20:20: You never know as coach how much influence you had in the end, but it was... The feeling is just yes!
00:20:30: You know also from my side.
00:20:32: So I received this voicemail and evening.
00:20:34: It felt sometimes when you are so to say gravitating into right direction.
00:20:42: And now as a way of writing or working on these mental coaching solvers there's some passion going on.
00:20:52: It's a passion I want to stick too.
00:20:55: But maybe we will talk about this in another episode, Episode thirty-one.
00:21:00: We'll be more about me...I think i leave it that way.
00:21:04: If you are interested just go the home page AviationQuest to see and there is a coaching button on the menu And the first contact and setup call where you can discuss just your goals, needs.
00:21:18: How I might help is completely free without any obligation.
00:21:23: so I'm Stefan knows it... I am no salesperson at this.
00:21:27: first set up in a call It takes The long it takes.
00:21:33: i don't care its on my costs.
00:21:35: Yeah exactly yeah Yeah, we are I think you and I both not exactly.
00:21:42: how can i put this money-minded business people.
00:21:48: I only want to work with people...I feel there's the same wavelength going on And especially when it comes to mental coaching This is where I want to get focused in aviation coaching for a really good cooperation, which works.
00:22:08: Yeah absolutely and I mean we talked about this before.
00:22:12: once you want to get into aviation the hurdles are quite high obviously purposely made very high.
00:22:26: Interviews can be very uncomfortable, they're not a nice interview like you have quite often when you go for an office job... You know?
00:22:33: They purposely make you feel uncomfortable.
00:22:36: I remember my first interview with an airline was extremely uncomfortable.
00:22:41: That's not because there are nasty people that is Because the want to see how your react!
00:22:46: The put under huge amount of stress and pressure And I think being mentally prepared for this, have some tools that can help you to calm down.
00:23:00: To collect yourself and your thoughts is very important!
00:23:08: I would definitely recommend anyone who's thinking of going into this profession like Cockpit Cabin
00:23:16: etc.,
00:23:17: I
00:23:20: mean the assessment preparation is certainly only part of my work, but it's maybe most important thing.
00:23:27: Because if you don't even get into a job this... yeah i think its one of the main things.
00:23:35: But also exam preparations and stuff like that not from technical side.
00:23:41: This isn´t my thing as mental coach.
00:23:44: Im myself in an airline pilot to bring what´s on your table.
00:23:49: This is often, and I see here so many similarities between also elite sports.
00:23:58: The airline's profession or the aviation professional or the pilot's profession.
00:24:04: but as i said maybe we will cover more of this in podcast thirty one And one thing.
00:24:12: every Thursday afternoon three p.m.
00:24:16: There is, so to say a condensed little giveaway from my mental coaching syllabus for aviation professionals linked in ready format.
00:24:26: So easy read with an ice picture on my LinkedIn profile.
00:24:31: and every Tuesday afternoon there's the podcast user also not the podcast.
00:24:37: these are they're linked inversion of the podcast teaser.
00:24:39: let's take it this way.
00:24:41: always was nice picture as well LinkedIn.
00:24:45: So on LinkedIn, this is so to say my professional social media outlet for aviation questions.
00:24:53: it's Jürgen Reis
00:24:55: great stuff.
00:24:57: yeah I like you said i spoke a lot about getting into the industry but most people are aware once your in the industry still being constantly tested under pressure.
00:25:10: So this doesn't go away, I'm afraid!
00:25:13: The testing and the demands they don't stop?
00:25:18: No no
00:25:20: i've just had my sim check.
00:25:21: we have to have it every six months.
00:25:24: It's two days eight hours nothing but stress and pressure with a guy sitting behind you watching what you're doing.
00:25:32: They give you tons of failures problems to solve with the aircraft.
00:25:38: So, you know even though I've been doing this for quite some time i still get nervous before every single sim and I don't know how nervous they get, but you can tell we're all a little bit apprehensive before we go into the sim.
00:25:58: Because obviously if we don't perform well it could have some pretty serious consequences in terms of our career.
00:26:06: so yeah like i said at the beginning mental fitness is very important.
00:26:11: just as important
00:26:16: Yeah, and I mean all.
00:26:18: there's a competitive athlete when you...I mean i competed over twenty years.
00:26:24: And this is somehow like Stefan said You always have the challenge and you have to face it and you should succeed!
00:26:35: There are things that can really learn or train.
00:26:40: This is why mental training and make yourself better than you are.
00:26:46: Yeah, I think Stefan you just spoke before about aviation industry that offers certainly more than pilot jobs and this is already where you were building such a great bridge.
00:27:11: Yeah, write us.
00:27:12: We want to interview you no matter if your pilot so airline military GA corporate an engineer from the ATC dispatch cabin crew flight simmers or a flight Simmer are From the aviation media creator industry.
00:27:29: Stefan I think he will agree.
00:27:30: all of those and more Are invited to aviation quest to see because we want to have stories from above.
00:27:40: The more the better.
00:27:42: Yes, absolutely.
00:27:44: And we've already had some really cool people that are you know non-flying and Some of them were absolutely amazing with amazing stories parts of the industry.
00:27:56: You probably usually never think about backgrounds that way incredibly interesting and inspiring.
00:28:03: so I think we both don't want this to be a pilot podcast.
00:28:08: This should open for anyone and everyone who is working in aviation or even like we said before, a bit flight simulator nuts, very enthusiastic.
00:28:23: Even if you have something to do with flight simulation maybe you've worked on the development of some add-ons or things like that.
00:28:34: everybody's welcome.
00:28:35: anyone who loves aviation like we do is more than welcomed to tell this story and give us insights.
00:28:44: As you can tell, this is a very casual podcast.
